The Cure Baseball to Host Family Fun Day to Benefit Cancer Awareness

A family friendly event to raise support and awareness for the fight against cancer and Omaha Police

Department’s fallen officer, Dawn Pollreis

OMAHA, Neb. (May 16, 2012) – The Cure Baseball in conjunction with the Omaha Police

Department will host a family fun day at Dockerville on Thursday June 14th to raise support and

awareness for all types of cancer and in memory of Omaha Police Department Officer Dawn

Pollreis,

The family fun day will allow families with children of all ages to enjoy the atmosphere

surrounding the College World Series. The day will be filled with fun family activities, ballpark

style food and the opportunity to give to a great cause just across the street from TD Ameritrade

Park.

“We are very excited to co-host this event with the Omaha Police Department. The atmosphere

surrounding the College World Series is so special and we are thrilled to be a part of it,” said The

Cure Baseball founder, Alex Paluka.

Dockerville, located at 601 North 14th Street, Omaha, Neb., also provides guest of the family fun

day with an unobstructed view of the fireworks display on Thursday evening. Admission to the

event is $5.00 for Children, $10.00 for Adults and $25.00 for families.

A portion of the proceeds raised from this event will benefit The Cure Baseball, Inc. and the

other portion to Dawn’s family, in memory of OPD Officer Dawn Pollreis.

The Cure Baseball is a nonprofit organization that strives to positively impact the lives of people

and families who have been affected by cancer through a collegiate summer baseball team,

specialized support groups, a scholarship fund and donations to prestigious cancer research

Leslie Bruning was born in Syracuse, KS and raised in Nebraska. After studying at Graz Center in Austria, he graduated with BA-Art from Nebraska Wesleyan University. In 1970 he was awarded a MFA -Sculpture from Syracuse University. He is currently Chair of the Art Area of Bellevue University, Bellevue NE and a founding member of the Market North Hot Shops Art Center, Omaha, NE. His studio and Bruning Sculpture, Inc., a casting and fabrication studio to produce architectural detail and other artists’ work, is located in the Hot Shops Art Center, 1301 Nicholas, Omaha, NE 68102.

Bruning received his first sculpture commission in 1969 at the County-City Building, Lincoln, NE and has completed over 50 commissions since that time. He has produced the Governor’s Art Award for the State of Nebraska, given slide presentations at the Central Time Zone Sculpture Symposium, Lincoln, NE and the 1990 International Sculpture Conference, Washington, DC, and received a Mentoring Grant from the Nebraska Art Council. He is included in many public and private collections including the Museum of Nebraska Art, Kearney, NE.

Bruning has participated in over 100 Juried and Invitational Shows throughout United States. In 1998 and 1999 he participated in the Pier Walk Sculpture Exhibition on Chicago’s Navy Pier. Recently he was on the J. Doe Committee, Omaha, NE.
